Correctional Facilities

Having a relative or friend in prison can be a very difficult experience.  We are most frequently called upon to visit a correctional institution so that an inmate can execute a Power of Attorney to enable another person to legally administer his or her affairs (such as banking, real estate transactions, or the care of a minor child).
When you call Seals on Wheels to request a prison visit, we will give you several time periods when a Notary Public will be available.   You must make the appointment and provide us with the name, title and phone number of the person who approved it.
You must make arrangements to meet with the Notary Public before the appointment to pay for the visit.  If you are not holding current, government-issued ID for the inmate, ask the prison official if s/he will provide the Notary Public with a copy of the prison record containing the necessary identification information, blocking out such data as criminal charges.  If you need to have the signed documents delivered somewhere (e.g., a law office), please make this known at the time you arrange the visit.

Hospitals and Nursing Homes

Many hospitals no longer maintain notary commissions for clerical workers, due to liability concerns.  Notarizing papers for elderly or medicated patients can be very risky.  Notaries Public must be reasonably confident of a patient’s mental status before placing their seals on documents such as Powers of Attorney or Wills.  As always, current government-issued identification is required, without exception.   Seals on Wheels is available, by appointment, at hours that are any but routine.  Please provide us with the patient’s name, hospital, room number and the nature of the document to be witnessed.  If witness are required, please come prepared because most facilities will not allow staff to act as witnesses.
